McNabs Challenge
Stalk & Walk, Fish and Shoot: A Distinctive Highland Challenge into the hills and onto the riverbanks of our Highland Perthshire Estates.
The History of The McNabs Challenge:
John Buchan´s adventure story was centred on three members
of London’s upper-class society. Bored, with little to engage
them and keen for a rejuvenating challenge, they concocted, in
the rarefied atmosphere of their London club, the notion of
poaching deer and salmon and red grouse on three Scottish
estates, having warned the owners of their intentions and the
dates when the acts were to be carried out.
In the event of success £50 would be paid to a charity appointed
by the estate owner, but failure would be a forfeit of £100,
again paid by the three “poachers”, all of whom operated
under the nom-de-guerre, John Macnab.
McNabs Challenge:
First off armed with your Camera and Binoculars set your sights
and stalk the Monarch of the Glen high in the hills. Requiring
quiet and cunning and the ability to outwit the Deer, you will
value the presence of your personal Ghillie, drawing on his
experience to get you close to this magnificent animal and his
knowledge of the river or Loch will be a valuable guide as you
meet the challenge to catch a fish, so tight lines!
Our Shooting Ground in Glenlyon is the perfect backdrop to set
your aim and go for the “kill” with clay target shooting.
Finally with a well earned dram of whisky toast your achievement and relax in the knowledge of having completed the famous ‘McNab Challenge’.

- Full McNab includes Photostalking, Clay target shooting and Fishing.
- Half McNab Includes Photo stalking and Fishing or Photo Stalking and Clay Target Shooting.
