Gold Panning & Lodge Activities

Highland Scotland’s Gold and Gem Panning Centre.

The Highlands of Scotland have always been associated with Gold, the worlds most precious and alluring of metals. Here at Highland Safari Lodge we are surrounded by deposits of Gold near Aberfeldy and Tyndrum, copper and silver near Loch Tay, Mica and Bayrite in Rannoch and of course our mountains are full of Garnet, Mica, Peridot , quartz and Amethyst. Some Deposits are still mined others worked out and forgotten. But you can come to Highland Safaris to pan for real Gold and Gem stones and have the chance to find some and take them home. Armed with your own bucket of dirt and pan, you can scoop and swirl in our all weather purpose built panning flume to hunt for both fools gold and real gold as well as many beautiful semi precious gem stones. After easy instructions from our resident expert, you'll soon be panning like a “pro” and quickly find out that panning is great fun. This activity is great fun and whatever you find you get to take home in a special bag!

What’s included:

  • Bucket of dirt
  • Panning pan
  • Gem identification chart on site to check out what you’ve found
  • Bag to take home what you find

What you need
Patience and Luck

The Weather
We often get 4 seasons in one day in Scotland but don’t worry part of the panning flume is under cover so you can be out panning without worrying about getting wet. Or parents can enjoy a cup of coffee in our Farm shop Café and watch the panners at enjoying themselves outside.

Access
The flume is accessable for wheelchairs

Don’t miss our Perthshire Gold Panning championships

“We enjoyed the safari into the hills. We saw hawks, hares and Deer. The Golden Eagle came by when we were having our tea at the Bothy. The telescope was also a big help to spot Deer. We will treasure this experience Thank you for sharing it with us.”
