Scotland's Only Gold and Gem Panning Centre

Highland Perthshire is rich with Gold deposits – the world’s most precious and alluring of metals. Also, nearby, on the banks and braes of beautiful Loch Tay Copper and Silver can be found and just over the hill by Loch Rannoch, there are considerable Mica and Bayrite deposits and then of course Garnet, Mica, Peridot , Quartz and Amethyst can be found in the mountains!

Here at The Safari Lodge is your chance to search and find these treasures: Gold and Gem Panning is great fun; even addictive!

This is what Gold and Gem Panning is all about:

  • First of all a Safari Ranger arms you with your own “pan” and bucket of grit and gives you a few handy instructions.
  • Then we take you to the covered, all weather panning flume; basically a 30 ft run of water!
  • Then scoop and swirl in the water as you hunt for real & ‘fools’ gold as well as many beautiful semi precious gem stones. There is a heap of lovely stones to be found in every grit bucket.
  • There are identification charts to help you see what you’ve found and we provide zip-bags so whatever you find you take home.

Here are some images to let you see what it's all about!

This is a fun, hands-on experience ideal for everyone; the young or not so young – yes many really do find it addictive.

Gold and Gem Panning is a great idea as part of a Birthday Party.

“We enjoyed the safari into the hills. We saw hawks, hares and Deer. The Golden Eagle came by when we were having our tea at the Bothy. The telescope was also a big help to spot Deer. We will treasure this experience Thank you for sharing it with us.”
